Slow Cooker Crock Pot Pecipes – Pork Butt

Hello crockpot!  I got this pork butt on sale for about $5 and added all the goodies for a fantastic slow cooker/crock pot recipe. I even had enough left over to have lunch for the next couple of  days.  The small things in life make me happy.

Ingredients

  • 1 small pork butt
  • 1 large russett potato
  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 1/2 of a large yellow onion
  • small bag of baby carrots
  • 1/2 of a small head of cabbage
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup peppercorns
  • 1 -2 tbsp vegetable base

Instructions

  1. Place pork butt in slow cooker/crock pot.
  2. Quarter the head of cabbage and remove core.
  3. Add carrots then cabbage.
  4. Wash potatoes and cut in half leaving skin on.
  5. Add peppercorns.
  6. Dissolve vegetable base in water and pour into crock pot.
  7. Put lid on and cook on high for 6 -8 hours.
  8. When everything is cooked through, remove it from the crock pot reserving the stock for gravy.
  9. Skim the fat layer from the pork and pull apart removing bones.
  10. Add stock to a gravy separator with a straining top and let the fat rise to the top.
  11. The straining top will catch the peppercorns, etc.
  12. Pour the stock into a heavy sauce pan and turn it on over a medium heat.
  13. Mix a slurry of cold water and flour in a shaker and shake. Slowly add slurry of cold water and flour and whisk until thick and bubbly cooking out the flour taste.
