How to Make Creamed Chipped Beef over Home Fries

Creamed Chipped Beef over homefries.

I knew I had to learn how to make creamed chipped beef over home fries after eating it at our local Amish Market.  The warm gravy over a crispy potato is the perfect combination for your Sunday morning breakfast.  It’s one of those meals that really sticks to your ribs as my momma would say. 


  • 3 oz. package chipped beef – chopped
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 1 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large potatoes – sliced or diced
  • 2 tbsp chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp canola oil
  • pat of butter


  1. In a large frying pan heat oil over medium high heat.
  2. Add butter, melt and add potatoes and onion.Creamed chipped beef home fries
  3. Cook until potatoes are soft and crispy.
  4. Keep warm on low heat.
  5. Cut beef into bite sized pieces. Creamed chipped beef chopped
  6. In a separate frying pan add 4 tbsp butter and melt.
  7. Add chopped beef and cook 10 minutes over medium heat.Creamed Chipped Beef in butter
  8. Add 4 tbsp. flour and mix well.
  9. Slowly add milk while whisking.
  10. Continue to whisk over medium heat until thick and bubbly.Creamed chipped beef with homestyle gravy
  11. Serve over home fries.
